“I Don’t Feel Like Myself Anymore”: Why Women Need to Stop Ignoring the Whispers

It usually happens quietly.

You’re standing in your kitchen, or looking at yourself in the mirror before a workout, or sitting in your car after a long day, and a heavy thought hits you:

“I don’t feel like myself anymore.”

In nearly 30 years of coaching women, those six words are the ones I hear more than any other.

Women rarely come to me saying, "I’m sick," or "I have a medical diagnosis." They come to me feeling exhausted, frustrated, and disconnected from their own bodies.

That emotional reality was the heart of my recent conversation with Kayla on the Becoming Your Strong Podcast. We didn't talk about quick fixes or strict routines. We talked about what it actually feels like to navigate your 40s, 50s, and beyond when your body stops responding the way it used to.

Your Body Whispers Long Before It Screams

We live in a culture that teaches women to push through. To suck it up, drink another cup of coffee, manage the household, excel at work, and keep quiet about how hard it feels.

So when the symptoms start, we ignore them:

  • The persistent, heavy fatigue that sleep doesn't fix.
  • The brain fog that makes simple tasks take twice as long.
  • The stubborn weight gain around your midsection despite doing "all the right things."
  • The aching joints and workouts that take days to recover from instead of hours.
  • The sudden feeling that your mood, energy, and inner drive are fading.

And when you finally mention it out loud, how often are you brushed off?

"It's just stress."

"You're getting older, that's just how it is."

"Welcome to perimenopause."

You are not crazy, and you do not have to just accept feeling miserable.

The True Cost of Drifting

When you don't have answers, it's easy to just drift. You hope next month will be different. You try a random supplement an influencer recommended online. You push harder on the treadmill even though your body is begging you to rest.

As I shared on the podcast: The cost of drifting is far greater than the cost of becoming curious.

Drifting doesn't leave you in the same place—it slowly drains you over time.

What Drifting Really Costs You:

  • Your Energy & Presence: Showing up to family events, work, and your daily life feeling like a shell of yourself because your battery is constantly on 5%.
  • Your Confidence: Feeling disconnected from your reflection and wondering why the strategies that worked 10 years ago suddenly fail.
  • Your Athletic & Physical Vitality: Accepting loss of strength, joint pain, and sluggish recovery as inevitable consequences of aging rather than signals to address.
  • Your Time: Spending months or years in an uncomfortable limbo, wondering "Is this just how life feels now?"

The hidden cost of drifting isn't financial—it's the emotional toll of settling for less than your full vitality.

Stop Waiting Until You're "Sick" to Look for Answers

A client once asked her doctor for a baseline blood panel just to see where her health stood. The response she got was: "Why? Is something seriously wrong with you?"

That mindset has to change. You shouldn't have to wait for a full-blown medical crisis to earn the right to understand what's happening inside your body.

At Done Done Fitness, our physician-reviewed wellness lab program exists to fill that gap. We aren't here to replace your doctor or diagnose medical conditions—we're here to give you clarity.

By looking at key markers like hormone balance, metabolic health, inflammation, and insulin sensitivity, we stop guessing and start seeing the real picture.

Everything Is Connected: Coaching the Whole Person

Labs are only one piece of the puzzle. A lab result without context is useless—because you don't live in a lab. You live in the real world.

That’s why we take those insights and map them directly onto your life:

Your Labs + Your Sleep + Your Stress + Your Daily Nutrition + Your Training Volume = Real Clarity

Sometimes the answer isn't working out harder—it's adjusting your training to protect your recovery. Sometimes it’s shifting your nutrition. Sometimes it’s having an informed, doctor-led conversation about targeted therapies like peptide protocols.

When you treat your body like an integrated system instead of a broken set of parts, everything changes.

Your Best Years Aren't in the Rearview Mirror

Some of the most powerful, resilient, and unstoppable women I coach are in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. I’ve watched women who felt completely lost lose over 65 pounds, step out onto competitive floors like the DEKA World Championships, and rediscover a level of strength and confidence they thought was gone forever.

They didn't turn back the clock—they stopped fighting their bodies and started listening to them.

Age isn't your enemy. Unanswered questions are.

You Deserve to Feel Like Yourself Again

If you’ve been carrying that quiet frustration around, stop ignoring the whispers. You don't have to wait until your body screams to take care of yourself.

You deserve to wake up with energy. You deserve to feel strong in your skin. You deserve clarity.

If you’re ready to stop guessing, stop drifting, and start understanding what your body needs right now, reach out to us at Done Done Fitness. Let's talk about our physician-reviewed wellness labs, our coaching, and how we can help you connect the dots.

Your best years aren't behind you—they're waiting for you to take the first step.
